Grow with Purpose: Invest in Yourself, Nurture Your Potential
What are you cultivating this summer?

I’m not known for having a green thumb, but I enjoy working with my flowers; pulling weeds, watering them, and watching them grow over time. Personal and professional development works much the same way. Growth rarely happens overnight. It comes from small, consistent efforts that eventually produce results.
One of the best ways to grow is to try something new. Not every learning experience has to be directly tied to your career. Sometimes the most valuable growth comes from stretching a different part of your brain. Recently, I took a bow-making class. At first, it felt awkward and unfamiliar, but with practice I improved, and now my creations are proudly displayed around my home. More importantly, the experience reminded me of what it feels like to be a beginner and challenged me to think differently.
What does this have to do with leadership? More than you might think. Effective leadership starts from the inside out. Long before we lead others, we must be willing to lead ourselves. That looks like: investing in our growth, challenging our assumptions, and expanding our capabilities. Being unapologetic on purpose means taking ownership of your development rather than waiting for someone else to chart the course. Investing in yourself isn't selfish; it's essential.
That’s the beauty of learning outside your comfort zone. A new hobby, class, volunteer opportunity, or creative pursuit can expand your perspective in ways you never expected. The lessons often find their way back into your daily life and work.
The reality is that no one will care more about your growth than you do. Whether you want to strengthen your current skills, explore a new interest, earn a certification, or prepare for your next career move, the responsibility and opportunity belongs to you.
Growth also doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes the boldest move is simply taking the next small step. As the saying goes, “By the yard, it’s hard. By the inch, it’s a cinch.” Progress is built through momentum, not perfection.
If you’ve been feeling restless, stuck, or ready for something more, pay attention. That feeling may be a sign that you’ve outgrown your current comfort zone. Being bold doesn’t always mean making a major change. Sometimes it means volunteering for a challenging project, taking on new responsibilities, or developing a skill that opens future doors. Other times, it may mean pursuing a new role, a new degree, or a completely different path.
Career journeys are rarely straight lines. Opportunities can come by choice or by circumstance. In either case, confidence grows when you take inventory of your strengths, experiences, and lessons learned. Every success and setback has prepared you for what comes next.
This summer, give yourself permission to grow. Plant the seed, take the class, learn the skill, or make the first move. Every investment you make in yourself strengthens the foundation from which you lead. When you grow intentionally, you show up with greater confidence, resilience, and purpose.
Sunflowers don't apologize for turning toward the light. Neither should you.
That's what it means to be unapologetic on purpose: choosing to nurture your potential, lead yourself first, and create a greater impact on those around you.
